Pawleys IT firm wins streamlined contract

Mercom Corp. of Pawleys Island has been awarded a federal contract designed to promote the acquisition of technology services from small business. The 8(a) Streamlined Technology Acquisition Resources for Services (STARS) Government-wide Acquisition Contract was awarded by the General Services Administration.

"This is an enormous achievement for Mercom," said Stalla Mercado, Mercom's president and CEO.

The contract allows Mercom to market directly with government agencies through an established contract instead of traditional, open market methods, which saves time and taxpayer money, she said.

"Because this contract is pre-competed and extremely exclusive, Mercom can advertise our growing portfolio of IT services, such as IT helpdesk, information assurance, and virtualization to a wider audience and capture a much higher percentage of contracts," Mercado said.

The 8(a) STARS program has a ceiling of $15 billion
