Carolyn Green, 87, tended garden by the sea

January 27, 2022

Carolyn Brown Green of Garden City died Jan. 27  with her family by her side. She was 87.

She was born May 5, 1934, in Williamsburg County, the daughter of Dexter Ernest Brown and Maude McClary Brown.

After raising her family in Andrews, Mrs. Green relocated to Cherry Grove and later to Garden City, where she enjoyed the ever-changing tides in Murrells Inlet and tending her lovely garden that featured hydrangeas, roses and palm trees.

Always attuned to the sea, she was known for creating and living in gracious and beautiful homes, dressing to the nines and making memories with her family over delicious meals and everyone’s favorite poundcake.

Although she worked in various family businesses, she took the most pride in her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children,   RA Green III (Paula) of Murrells Inlet, Elizabeth Moseley of Garden City and Atlanta, Lisa Anderson (Jimmy) of Florence, and Jane Roberts (Giles) of Wilmington, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Royce Green IV (Melanie), Neil Anderson (Jennifer), Mikkel Green, Ashley Anderson (Lindsey), Whitney R. Hill (Mark), Beth Anderson, Sarah Green, Grayson Roberts (Taylor), Ryan Anderson (Terri), Andrew Moseley (Lauren)  and Matthew Moseley; 10 great-grandchildren;  three brothers, Wendell Brown (Erma Jean) of Kingstree, Steve Brown of Edisto Island and Don Brown (Joan) of Mount Pleasant;  her sisters-in-law, Donna Riffe Brown of Mount Pleasant  and Joan G. Morris of Andrews; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her sister, Betty Jean B. Mikkelson, and  her brother, Jerry Brown, died before her as did a brother-in-law, Billy Mikkelson, a sister-in-law, Margie M. Brown, and a son-in-law Riley “Trey” Moseley. Her ex-husband Royce A. Green Jr. died in 2015.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Will Malambri. Burial will be in the churchyard. Her family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. in Belin’s Family Life Center. The service will be live-streamed on the Belin YouTube channel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org), the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) or the Brain Aneurysm Foundation (bafound.org).

Condolences may be sent at burrroughsfh.com.
