David R. Hufford, 87, construction company owner

David Ronald Hufford of DeBordieu died Feb. 27 at his home. He was 87.

He was born Dec. 11, 1934, in Perrysburg, Ohio, the son of Gertrude Best Hufford and Joseph Hufford. He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1953 and joined the Marine Corps. He served until 1957. In 1954, he married Shirley Sue Sarver and had three children.

Mr. Hufford and Carollynn Bembenek married in 1985. This began their 36 year journey as partners in marriage, friendship, business and as grandparents. Mr. Hufford was the owner of Hufford Construction where he worked at the furniture market in High Point, N.C., for years.

He  enjoyed golf, the ocean, fishing, his front porch, playing cards, Johnny Cash music, travel, working in his yard, practical jokes and placing bets,  and his children and grandchildren. He taught all the importance of hard work and common sense.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his dog, Mack; his sister, Amelia Schute; his children, Brian Hufford (Lynn), Anita Kolvey (Bob) and Lisa Jones (Roosevelt Nix); his grandchildren,  Steve Hufford (Shannon) and great-grandchildren Lilah and Logan, Eric Hufford (Emily), Alyssa Kolvey, Zachary Kolvey, Meredith Kolvey, Rosie Nix, Jalen Jones and Keela Mackley (Ryan).

A celebration of life service is planned for May 7 in Georgetown.
