Ella Eaddy, 100, first director of Belin school

Ella Gabrell Powell Eaddy of Murrells Inlet died Jan. 9 at NHC Healthcare. She was 100.
She was born March 8, 1901, in Hemingway, one of nine children of Clara Hughes Powell and Eddie Powell.
She was remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.
She loved preparing Sunday dinner for her family every week. She enjoyed working in her yard, growing beautiful flowers and grew a very successful vegetable garden every season.
Mrs. Eaddy loved Belin Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Mildred Floyd Sunday school class and was the oldest living member of the church. She was instrumental in the development of Belin Creative Learning Center, becoming the first full-time director and remaining that for many years.
She is survived by her children, Ann Jackson, Bubba Eaddy (Cheryl), Kerry Eaddy and Denise Shelley (Booty); nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lyle Stone, and two brothers, Edward and Mitchell Powell.
Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at Belin. Burial was in the church cemetery.
