Frank J. Flynn, 88, Army vet worked for insurance company

January 6, 2022

Frank John Flynn of Pawleys Island died Dec. 28 at his home with his family by his side. He was 88.

He was born Nov. 24, 1933, in Jersey City, N.J., the son of Frank and Mildred Hostetter Flynn.  He served in the Army for more than 29 years, serving at the Pentagon and the New Jersey National Guard as a chief warrant officer. Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Flynn worked for Continental Insurance as a manager in the data center.

In his free time, he relished traveling to Disney, Harrah’s, Hawaii and cruising. Nothing made him happier than time spent with his family, whose every small success from preschool to grad school caused his buttons to pop off his shirt with pride, his family said.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol Ann Flynn; his daughters: Sharon Flynn Webb (John) of Pawleys Island and their children, Nora Webb of Rock Hill, John Connor Webb of Charlotte and Frank Brennan Webb of Fairfax, Va.; Cindy Ann Walker of Pawleys Island, and her children, Capt. Andrew Walker of Fort Hood, Texas, Katherine Carole Walker of Melbourne, Australia, and Matthew McNeil Walker of Pawleys Island; and Christine Applegate (Thomas) of Matthews, N.C., and their children, Victoria Grace Fitz (Jack) of Brick, N.J., and Jacob Carrol Applegate of Matthews; his great-grandchildren, Ashley, Bailey and Sydney Applegate of Beaufort, N.C.; his sister, Mildred Frank of East Rutherford, N.J.; his brother, Richard Flynn of North Hackensack, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Another brother, Kenneth Flynn, and a grandson, Zachary Applegate, died before him.

A celebration of his  life was held Dec. 31 at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. Burial will be held in Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St. Georgetown, SC 29440.

Condolences may be sent at burroughsfh.com.
