Kent Reich, 87, worked on Air Force projects

Harry Kent Reich of Litchfield Country Club died April 16 at Waccamaw Community Hospital. He was 87. 

He was born Sept. 29, 1932, in Mattoon, Ill., the son of Harry and Hazel Holsapple Reich. 

Known as Kent, he graduated from Mattoon High School and Eastern Illinois University. 

He served in the Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Reich had a long and satisfying career in the Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. 

Early in his career he worked in the flight dynamics laboratory in the field of acoustics and vibrations. 

The bulk of his career was in the aeronautical systems division’s directorate of reconnaissance, where he worked on electronic signal intelligence programs during the Vietnam War and was a foreign military sales manager on a mutually beneficial program with the German defense ministry.

Mr. Reich was enthusiastic about everything he did and put 150 percent effort into all his interests. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, motorcycling, traveling and ham radio.

He and his wife, June, retired to Pawleys Island in 2004.

Mr. Reich was remembered for his kindness, gentleness, intelligence and dry sense of humor.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by his son, Daniel (Jennifer); three grandsons, Daniel Jr., Jonah and Abraham, all of Sherrill, Iowa; his brother, John (Patricia) of Huntersville, N.C.; three nephews, Steve, Scott and Michael; and one niece, Lindsey Haberman.
