Mary Pearl Bruton Dyson of Myrtle Beach died Jan. 6 due to complications from COPD. She was 83.
She was born Jan. 28, 1936, in the Cedar Grove area of Conway, the daughter of Van Douglas Bruton and Norah Louise Graham Bruton. Mary graduated from Conway High School and attended Horry-Georgetown Technical College. She worked for General Telephone Electric.
She was married to the late Stephen James Dyson.
In 1985, Mrs. Dyson along with her son-in-law and daughter, Fawzi and Teresa Bennani, started Casablanca Rugs & Carpet.
Mrs. Dyson loved her family, her church and her country, but most of all, she loved Jesus, her family said. She made the best fried chicken and coconut cake that one could eat.
She traveled the world, enjoyed reading, gardening, tending roses and playing Scrabble.
In addition to her daughter and son-in-law of Pawleys Island, she is survived by her granddaughters, Nora Bennani Strom (John) of Washington, D.C.; Yasmine Khira Bennani of Manhattan, N.Y., and Mary Sophia Bennani of Columbia; two brothers, Wallace Wayne Bruton (Reba) and Lloyd Russell Bruton (Joann); many nephews, a niece and cousins. She had three special friends who gave her extra love and support as her health failed, Barbara Stocks, Carol Stallings and Annemarie Linder.
In addition to her husband, her son, Stephen Wayne Dyson, and sister Bobbie Jean Bruton Doyle (Henry), died before her.
A celebration of her life will be held Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach with a reception following in the Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach, 500 4th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 or a charity of your choice.
