Michael K. Clingenpeel, 72, owned gourmet shop

Michael Kent Clingenpeel of the Tradition Club, former owner of Carolina Gourmet, died Monday. He was 75.

He was born Jan. 10, 1945, in Battle Creek, Mich., a son of Donald Eugene Clingenpeel and Carlene Donnabelle Unruh Clingenpeel.

Mr. Clingenpeel served in the Navy for 10 years. He also worked as an executive in the manufacturing industry. Later in life, he and his wife owned and operated Carolina Gourmet in the Hammock Shops Village until 2016.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Judy Katherine Pearce Clingenpeel; his daughters, Anji Nelson, Tiffany Rector, Tammy, Toni, Michelle Hajdu (Szabi); his son, Steven Hayes (Tina); nine grandchildren;  and his brothers, Scott and Rick Clingenpeel.

Services may be held at a later date and, if so, will be announced by the family.
