January 9, 2020

Sara Ann Caban of Georgetown died Jan. 1 following a long illness. She was 78.

She was born Nov. 29, 1941, in Columbia, the daughter of James Bradley Tallon and Meda Randolph Tallon.  The family later moved to Lamar, where Sara Ann was raised.

A graduate of Lamar High School, she matriculated to Furman University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in music education in three-and-a-half years.  She was a member of the Furman Singers and performed in concerts in various locations.

After graduating, she taught public school music at Myrtle Beach Grammar School and Myrtle Beach Grade School.

On Aug. 6, 1965, Sara Ann married the love of her life, Charles H. Caban, at the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Chapel. They had met while she was at Furman and he was a Clemson University engineering student.

After living in Kansas City, Mo., Homestead, Fla., and Fairhope, Ala., they settled in Marietta, Ga., where they went on to raise their two sons.

After retirement, the couple moved to Georgetown, where they were faithful members of the Prince George Winyah Church.

Mrs. Caban was remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, avid scuba diver, commercial real estate broker, music teacher, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and church choir member.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Bradley C. Caban (Jacky) of Gulf Shores, Ala., and Christopher R. Caban (Suzanne) of Dacula Ga.; her grandchildren, James Bradley Caban, Andrew Caban, Kallista Caban and Roman Caban; her sister, Miriam Tallon Swiler (Brad) of Georgetown; her brother, James Bradley Tallon Jr. (Penny) of Lynchburg; and nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

A memorial service was held Friday at Prince George Winyah by the Rev. E. Ragland Coxe.
