Carol Murgia, 88, astrologer was former inlet resident

August 1, 2024

Carol Ann Farley Murgia, a former Murrells Inlet resident, died July 1 in Bangor, Maine. She was 88.

She was born May 17, 1936, in Salem, Mass., the daughter of James and Jeanette Farley. Carol was raised in Peabody, Mass., where she graduated from St. Chridien High School. She continued her studies at LaSalle Junior College in Newton Mass.

She married John Robert Murgia in 1959 and raised three children – Carla, Paula and John Jr.

Mrs. Murgia was known for her sense of humor and often entertained friends and family with palm and tarot card readings. She became proficient in astrology as well and enjoyed creating detailed astrological reports for her friends and family.

After her husband’s death in 1999, she moved to Murrells Inlet, where she discovered a talent for painting and drawing. She was known for painting portraits of her pets and was often asked by friends and acquaintances to do the same for them.

In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Angela Haskell Hannon, Robert Haskell and Milo and Na’Jah Murgia; her great-granddaughter, Ada Marie Hannon; her brother, Robert Farley; her son-in-law, Bradford Haskell; and her nieces and nephews.

Another brother, Richard, died before her.

Services will be held Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Democratic National Committee.

Condolences can be sent at ripostafh.com.
