November 21, 2024
Marie Ann DiCapua of Murrells Inlet died Nov. 1 surrounded by her daughters. She was 93.
She was born Oct. 30, 1931, in Greenwich Village in New York City, one of seven children of Marie Mulroy and Jeremiah Francis Leake.
Marie grew up in the Bronx and Leonardo, N.J. She met her husband, Jerry, at Middletown High School. Starting their journey in New Jersey and later moving to west New York, Mrs. DiCapua’s happiest moments were spent during the simple days of raising her seven children and making memories with her extended family.
Mr. DiCapua’s passion for the amusement industry took the family to Rhode Island and Baltimore before settling in Myrtle Beach in the late 1970s. There they opened Jerry’s Corner, a bingo parlor and bar that became a cornerstone of Garden City.
Mrs. DiCapua’s love for cooking was her gift to her patrons and family, with love in every dish. Her children were deeply involved in the business, with her son Kevin working alongside her and carrying forward her passion for creating a welcoming space for all.
She is survived by her sisters, Helen Matejovic and Ann McCabe; her children, Jeremiah, Maureen and Karen; her grandchildren, Kerrie, Shannon, Matthew, Maria, Anthony, Nicholas and Dylan; and her great-grandchildren, Cameron, Ava, Johnny, Joey, Elisha and Ava.
In addition to her husband, her siblings, Patsy, Frank, Michael and Jeremiah, died before her as did her children, Kevin, Brian, Kathy and Angel, and her grandchildren, Caelan and Jamie.
A funeral mass in celebration of her life will take place after the holidays at St. Ann’s Church in Keansburg, N.J.
