Snoots Howard, 90, ran art and antiques gallery

Kathleen Green “Snoots” Howard of Pawleys Island died Nov. 11 at her home. She was 90.
She was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Bucksport, the daughter of Frederick Lafayette Green and Kathleen Gainey Green. After graduating from Columbia College in 1956, she taught elementary school for a number of years in several locations around South Carolina. Later, she operated an antique and art gallery at Pawleys Island.
She was married for nearly 64 years to the late Richard Grandison Howard.
She was a woman of many interests including knitting, sewing, and gardening. There are many who recall how she could, on a moment’s notice, prepare and host an elegant dinner party for 50 of her closest friends.
She was remembered by countless friends and relatives, including those in McClellanville, her home away from home.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Howard Dowis (Chip) of Charleston and Helen Elizabeth Howard of Pawleys Island; her son, Richard Grandison Howard Jr. (Martha) of Raleigh, N.C.; and her grandchildren, George Dowis, Grandison Howard and Addie Howard.
Her brothers, Frederick Lafayette Green Jr. and James Thomas Green, died before her.
A memorial service will be held at 2 today at the old All Saints Church.
