Anne Scott, 65, proud to be ‘cool mom’

July 31, 2025

Camelia Scott of Georgetown died July 24 at her home. She was 65.

Known as Anne, she was born April 13, 1960, in Tryon, N.C., the daughter of the Rev. Robert Joseph Howell and Doris Jean O’Dell Howell. Her family moved to Beaufort, where she played basketball, was a cheerleader and served at the Beaufort Water Festival as a goodwill ambassador for the Pirettes.

After leaving Beaufort during her junior year of high school, Anne made Georgetown her home. It was there that she met her future husband, Robert Charles Scott.

Mrs. Scott devoted her life to raising her children and creating a loving, welcoming home. She cherished her time on the field, coaching softball and cheering from the sidelines. With her big heart and easygoing spirit, her home quickly became a favorite gathering place for their friends. Proud to be known as the “cool mom,” she always maintained a balance between fun and firm.

Mrs. Scott’s 49-year membership at Duncan Memorial Methodist Church began when her father became the pastor in 1976. Her deep commitment was evident through her generous spirit and unwavering willingness to serve.

When she wasn’t caring for her family or serving others, Mrs. Scott could often be found tending flowers and vegetables in her garden. On quiet days, she would slip away to fish, another cherished pastime.

In addition to her husband of 45 years, she is survived by her children, Katherine “Katie” Scott Egger (Paul), Robert “Charles” Scott Jr. (Ashley) and Caroline Howell Scott; her grandchildren, Madison Egger, Riley Egger, Sawyer Scott, Collette Scott, Blaine Scott, Ryder Scott, Parker Sanders and Cooper Sanders; her brothers, Robert Joseph Howell Jr. and Timothy Howell; several nieces and her special friend, Debbie Kaufman.

Another brother, Steven Howell, died before her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Duncan Memorial Methodist Church for the Stephen Ministry or the Nurture Group, 901 Highmarket St., Georgetown, SC 29440.
