Donald P. Schwarz, 82, former NYPD detective

Donald Paul Schwarz of Murrells Inlet died Oct. 20 at Waccamaw Community Hospital. He was 82.
He was born July 15, 1942, in Queens, N.Y., the son of Edna Band Schwarz and Joseph Schwarz. He served in the Army in Vietnam.
Mr. Schwarz was a retired detective with the New York Police Department. He was a member of the NYPD Detectives Association.
He was an avid gardener who loved to plant flowers and tomatoes. He was quite a cook as well, reading all sorts of cookbooks and tweaking recipes. After retiring to South Carolina, Mr. Schwarz learned to golf and loved to play nine holes with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Foster; his stepdaughter, Kimberly Stoffers, and grandchildren, Samantha, Cassandra and Christopher Stoffers, of Jericho, N.Y.; his daughter-in-law, Ami Foster, and grandsons, Ashton and Maxwell Foster of Merrick, N.Y. and Michael Schwarz of Charlotte; and his nephew, Sean Beddiges, of Park Ridge, N.J.
His sister Joanne Schwarz Aymar, died before him, as did his daughter, Laurie Schwarz, and his stepson, Scott Foster.
A celebration of his life will be held Nov. 23 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the family’s home in Murrells Inlet.
