Gary A. Phillips, 76, angler was part of ‘liars club’

Gary Allen Phillips of Murrells Inlet died July 14 at his home. He was 76.
He was born March 12, 1949, in High Point, N.C., the son of George Allen Phillips and Mary Kathleen Smiley Phillips. He was married for 58 years to the late Brenda Diane Helms Phillips.
Mr. Phillips loved fishing, hanging out with his fishing buddies who called themselves the Garden City Liar’s Club, spending time with his family and traveling with his wife. He was remembered as a man who had a giving spirit and loved to laugh.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Michelle Bowen (Jonathan) of Bellingham, Wash.; his grandchildren, Jacob Mark Bowen, Alex Faith Bowen, Zachary Helms Bowen, all of Bellingham; his god-daughters, Hannah Michele Rummage and Sarah Elizabeth Rummage of Lancaster; and his siblings, Sherry Kordecki of Charlotte, Susan Rummage (Roger) of Matthews, N.C., Marsha Thulin (Vic) of Clover, Wayne Phillips (Melba) of Monroe, N.C., David Phillips (Effie) of Asheville, N.C., and Danny Phillips of Matthews.
His son, Mark Allen Phillips, and another brother, Douglas Phillips, died before him.
A graveside service was held July 20 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway.
