Howard J. Holt, 77, retired from Santee Cooper

Howard Jerome Holt, a former Murrells Inlet resident, died May 2 at Brunswick Memorial Hospital in Georgia. He was 77.
He was born March 22, 1948, in Georgetown, the son of the Harvey B. Holt and Florine Elliott Holt. He served in the Air Force and worked for Santee Cooper for 36 years. He and his wife, Debby, later moved to Georgia.
Mr. Holt was a devoted Christian and a member of Maryville Pentecostal Holiness Church. He had a great love for vintage cars and had a huge collection of die-cast cars.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his step-sons, Deryck Haynam and Shaun Haynam (Jessica) of Florida; his step-granddaughters, Jemma Kale and Raegan Haynam of Florida; his sisters, Brenda Coleman (Bill) and Ruby Fleming of Georgetown; his brother, Jimmy Holt (Adrie) of Georgetown; his brother-in-law, Paul Redmond of Murrells Inlet; his sister-in-law, Wanda Holt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His first wife, Pamela Goins Holt, died before him as did two sisters, Helen Redmond and Alice Faye Holt, a brother, Charles Wendell Holt, and two brothers-in-law, Irving Fleming and Teddy Barrineau.
An inurnment service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
