James DiFazio, 86, developed patents at IBM

James Joseph DiFazio died Oct. 4 in Murrells Inlet, where he had lived for 30 years. He was 86.
He was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., the son of Rosa Lanzarone and Egidio DiFazio. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and attended Berklee School of Music and subsequently played drums professionally.
He served in the Army from 1959 to 1961 and was then employed at IBM, where he contributed to several patents before retiring in 1993.
Mr. DiFazio was an accomplished photographer and enjoyed camping, fishing and the outdoors.
He also volunteered at the Murrells Inlet VFW and American Legion.
He is survived by his daughters, Stacey DiFazio and Jocelyn Jackson; his sisters, Anne French and Vini Owsiany; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be private.
