Jean B. Swartz, 87, owned kennel in Pa.

Jean Bartis Swartz, a former Murrells Inlet resident, died Jan. 22 in Staunton, Va. She was 87.
She was born Feb. 23, 1937, the daughter of Henry and Helen Pinko Bartis. She graduated from Scranton Central High School in Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Swartz owned and operated Highland Kennels in Mill City, Pa., where she once lived. She was also secretary for Falls Township, Pa.
In her younger years she was a competitive swimmer and used that ability to teach many to swim at Lake Winola, Pa. She was married for 65 years to the late Ray Swartz, who was known as Jim.
She is survived by her daughter Terry (Bill); her grandsons, Phillip, Benjamin, Nathan and Elisha; and five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, her son, Raymond, died before her as did her brothers, John and Michael, and her sisters, Helen and Marianne.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
