March 6, 2025
Jeanette Avin Rosenbaum, a former resident of the Reserve, died Feb. 23 in Port St. Lucie, Fla., surrounded by her family. She was 83.
She was born Feb. 16, 1942, in Sumter. She and her friends used to drive to Pawleys Island on summer weekends and for vacations, she recalled at a Pawleys Pavilion Reunion.
She lived for many years in Knoxville, Tenn., and St. Simons Island, Ga.
Mrs. Rosenbaum was fond of walks on the beach, loved to paint, and found joy in dancing and making others smile. She had a deep love for history and a passion for tracing her family’s genealogy, which led her to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She also had a passion for designing homes, and the last home she designed in South Carolina was featured on the cover of Builder + Architect.
A talented writer, Mrs. Rosenbaum was the author of children’s books and a fictional account of the life of Bunny Zazu. In her younger years, she trained retrievers and cherished her golden retriever, Moose, for nearly 15 years.
She also participated in beauty pageants at various levels, earning the title of Mrs. Senior Florida in 2010 and remaining involved in pageantry throughout the South.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John V. Rosenbaum; her children, Lance Rosenbaum (Alicia) of Brunswick, Ga. and Sharon Rosenbaum of Port St. Lucie; and her grandsons, Zane and Eli Rosenbaum of Athens, Ga.
A private memorial and wake will be held at Inlet Point in May.
