Kimberly R. Reischling, 68, award-winning DOD writer

Kimberly Kaye Reischling of Murrells Inlet died Oct. 31. She was 68.
She was born July 20, 1956, the daughther of Marilyn Parsche and Roland Brendel. She graduated from Northwestern State University of Louisiana with a bachelor’s degree in English.
Mrs. Reischling managed her educational responsibilities while raising three children and supporting a military household. Her career began at the Fort Polk Army installation newspaper, the Guardian, where she quickly ascended from a staff writer to a public affairs officer and later a command information officer for JROTC.
Mrs. Reischling’s dedication and skill earned her multiple Thomas Jefferson Awards from the Department of Defense and many installation-wide accolades.
She retired in June 2022 after losing her husband Frank and moved to Murrells Inlet to be closer to family.
After retirement, she volunteered her time and talent to the Palmetto Literacy Council in Myrtle Beach, where she tutored children in reading while fostering a deep commitment to growing the organization’s reach and fundraising.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her daughters, Rachel Reischling and Katie Kapotsy; her son-in-law, Michael; her siblings, Barbara Reynolds and Tom Brendel; and her grandchildren, Kaanon, Ella, Hazel and Jaxon.
In addition to her mother and her husband, her stepson, Frankie R. Reischling, died before her.
A memorial service was held Saturday at Burroughs Funeral Home.
