Michael G. Getty, 81, retired from Marriott

Michael Gregory Getty of Heritage Plantation died Sept. 22 at his home. He was 81.
He was born April 16, 1943, in Meyersdale, Pa., the son of William and Jean Middleton Getty. Mike served in the Air Force and was stationed at Tempelhof Air Force Base in Berlin from 1962 to 1965. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in business in 1969.
Mr. Getty retired as vice president of corporate development of the Marriott Corp. at its headquarters in Washington, D.C. During his career, he lived and worked in several cities across the country including Baltimore, New York and Los Angeles.
He moved to Heritage Plantation in 1994.
Mr. Getty loved travel, reading and, most of all, golf. He was a member of The Reserve golf club since its inception.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Paula; his daughters, Jacqueline Walston (Greg) of Glen Burnie, Md., and Christina Hooper (Bill) of Columbus, Ohio; his grandchildren, Meghan Minor (Kody) and Shane Walston (Lauren); his great-grandchildren, Elliott Walston and Karsyn Rae Minor; his brother, Dr. Thomas Getty (Chris) of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Leslie Vincent of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
His sister, Linda, died before him.
A private service will be held.
