Patricia Byrd, 81, former county elections director

Patricia Byrd, a longtime resident of Pawleys Island, died Oct. 11. She was 81. 

She was born July 10, 1943, the daughter of Sadie Moore and A.V. Moore. She was a graduate of Winyah High School. 

Mrs. Byrd worked in the Georgetown County office of Civil Defense, now Emergency Management. She was also the long-time director of the county Election Commission.

She had a passion for helping people and spreading the light and love of Christ. She could often be found helping out at her church and organizing fundraisers for the Salvation Army. 

She never missed a family event or holiday. 

She is survived by her grandson, Ronald E. Moore Jr. (Stephanie) of Johns Island; her sister, Sylvia Friedner (Jerry) of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her daughter Melissa Byrd Moore, died before her.

Funeral services were held Oct. 18 at The Abbey at Pawleys Island. Burial was in Prince George Winyah Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Dementia Society of America.
