Pete Peterson, 75, left mark through charitable work

Colin Peterson of Georgetown died Feb. 27 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 75.

Known as Pete, he was born on March 23, 1949, in Peoria, Ill., the son of Donald Grey Peterson III and Shirley Ann Feeley.  He retired from International Paper Co.’s  Woodlands/Forestry Management Department.

Mr. Peterson was a devout member of St. Mary Our lady of Ransom Catholic Church, where he was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. Faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he lived it out daily through acts of kindness, compassion and humility. 

Mr. Peterson dedicated much of his time to organizing and performing charitable work with the Knights of Columbus, striving to make a difference in the lives of others. Among the activities he volunteered with were Operation Hope, Log-a-Load for Kids, J.O.Y. School, and Special Olympics. He touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on his community.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sandy Peterson; his children, Nikki Bradley (Sean), Beth Peterson, Megan Hogan (Jeffrey) and Nicole Ranson; his grandchildren, Isabel Sanchez, Thomas Ariza and Colleen, John  and Emma Bradley; and his brothers, Scott Peterson and Larry Maloney.

His first wife, Margo Peterson, died before him as did another grandson, Alexander Grey Sanchez, and two other brothers, Donald Peterson IV and Jerry Maloney.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary Our Lady Of Ransom Catholic Church in Georgetown.
